CMU violin studio highlights 2015

2014-2015 school year is productive and exciting year for alumni and current students from CMU violin studio.

Bingqing Xia, a masters student from China, has won the 2015 CMU Concerto and Aria Competition and performed Barber Violin Concerto with the CMU Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Jose Maurtua. In addition, Bingqing was named a finalist at the 2015 White Lake Solo Competition in MI.

Alexandria Midcalf, a senior violin performance major, has been actively engaging herself in numerous competitions and music festivals. She is a second place winner at 2015 American Protege Competition and has recently made her second appearance at Carnegie Hall as a prize winner. Alexandria has also won the Audience Favorite Award at the 2015 White Lake Solo Competition and was invited to perform at the White Lake Chamber Music Festival in this August. During the summer, she participated the International Miami Music Festival and was also named a finalist at the Vienna Virtuoso International Music Competition.

Kayla Priest, BME 15,  graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education and received teaching appointments at Interlochen Elementary School and Great Lakes Adventist Academy.

Kelly VanderMolen, MM 15, graduated with a Master of Music in violin performance and is newly appointed as a violin faculty the International School of Music in Bethesda , MD.
